Merton's Community Fridge joins Food Connect to help take good food further

This Food Waste Action Week, we are excited to announce that Merton's Community Fridge is now part of the #FoodConnect network - a zero emissions food redistribution service run by award-winning environmental charity, Hubbub and supported by the Mayor of London and Starbucks.

Merton's Community Fridge is piloting the new venture, replacing 40+ short car journeys a week with the Tern GSD S10 LX electric bike and Carla Cargo trailer which is able to carry around 150kg in weight.

Our e-bike riders, Craig and Jason have completed their training, delivered by Bikeworks, and will be pedalling 20 hours a week to save good food from going to waste and reduce emissions. Through their efforts, we will be collecting around 1500kgs of food per week from 25+ local stores including Sainsbury's, Co-op stores, Booker Wholesale, Lidl, Aldi and KFC.

The food will be delivered to Merton's Community Fridge and other organisations and charities within Merton's Food Response Network where it will be shared with the local community 💚

Thanks to Merton's Community Fridge Network partner, Merton Community Transport for safely storing the e-bike when it's not out and about.

Keep a look out for our riders in your local area and be sure to give them a wave! 😀
