Congratulations to Abundance Wimbledon for another very successful Fruit Day! Delicious cakes, chutneys, jams and other treats were donated for all to enjoy all, creating a wonderful showcase of the many different ways to make use of local fruit that is often wasted.
The Mayor of Merton, David Chung officially opened the event and organisers, Joyce and Juliet, thanked all of the volunteers who have given their time to keep the project going strong.
Visitors enjoyed craft activities, the longest peel competition, a plant sale, and the Colliers Wood International Ukelele Orchestra were of course a highlight! We were delighted to be a part of the day and enjoyed working alongside local artists running a potato printing activity for children to create recycling stories.
A grand total of £1,216 was raised on the day – A fantastic contribution towards the team’s great work to help people pick and distribute surplus fruit to residents and local charities.
